Technical - I will point out areas of strength and areas requiring improvement, and provide specific advice on how to level up your skills (drawing fundamentals, lighting, anatomy, character, storytelling, composition, etc.).

Cohesion and clarity - is your portfolio making a clear statement about who you are as an artist? Does it showcase your areas of interest (and your strengths) and communicate these clearly to art directors, directors, and potential clients?

Style - Does your visual voice ring true and come through in the work you produce? Are you imitating or drawing 'from the heart?' Do I see 'you' in your work? If you experiment with different styles, are they all worthy of inclusion in your portfolio? Is your visual vocabulary getting in the way of clear storytelling?

Originality - are you drawing characters, environments, and everything else with an eye towards invention, story, and a unique visual language or point of view?

Business - how are you marketing yourself/your work? Could you be doing it differently/better?

Draw-overs - Where applicable and helpful, I will draw over selected pieces from your portfolio to demonstrate ways to improve and enhance the work.

I taught traditional portraiture, figure drawing, watercolor basics, and digital painting at university for 12 years.

I am the creator of the KyleBrush brand of Photoshop brushes used by major studios and agencies around the world since 2014, and acquired by Adobe in 2017. I continue to update the Adobe brush library every quarter with new original brushes.

I currently work at Adobe on drawing and painting initiatives and designed the brushes for Adobe Fresco.
